Devon CC using rebar locators in action

Elcometer P120 Concrete Rebar Plus Locators used to locate post tensioned cables at a depth of up to 140 mm.

Part of a conversion program to create a new Archives Records Office and Information Center
for Devon County Council.

Devon County Council has acquired Great Moor House (previously BT's main store for South West) for the conversion into a home for its new prestigious Archives Records Office and Information Center. Part of the conversion will involve building a new heavy structure inside the existing warehouse, which will involve driving piles through the floor.

The original floor was constructed using pairs of post-tensioned tendons approximately 750-1000mm apart, each tendon pair being typically 80mm apart and at a depth of between 80-140mm. The location of each individual tendon had to be determined to avoid damage during construction - a difficult task considering the separation and depth of the tendons.

Following an extensive evaluation, Devon County Council's Materials Laboratory chose Protovale's Rebar Plus Rebar Locators to undertake the task. Commenting on the evaluation, Charles Nyeko-Lacek, Devon County Council, said:

"We wanted an instrument that was easy to use, lightweight and above all could give us quick and accurate location data. The Rebar Plus not only met all of the criteria, but was chosen ahead of more expensive equipment. The Rebar Plus accurately located the cables down to 140mm depth, a task that few other instruments could achieve, and easily differentiated between the close cable-pairs.

We were also confident of Elcometer's reliability, having used both their CM5 & Elcometer P350 Cover Meters for a number of years without ever being let down"
