Newcastle
City Council is carrying out a major external fabric overhaul
to their houses on the St Anthony's Estate, in the East End of
the City. Part of the work involves re-pointing the brickwork.
Gun-Point,
a nationwide company, specialists in re-pointing, are removing
the deteriorated mortar by using a power grinder set to a constant
rake depth on 30 mm. The wall ties are positioned at an approximate
depth of 25 mm. To avoid hitting and consequently damaging the
fabric of the wall, the Elcometer P130 Wall-Tie Locator is being
used to rapidly and precisely locate the wall-ties. After the
mortar has been raked out, the joints are filled using the Gun-Point
low-pressure mortar pump. This injects the mortar back into the
joints to give a positive fill.
