High
power metal detectors used by Taywood Engineering Limited to detect
structural steelwork to a depth of 300mm.
Used
during the installation of cathodic protection systems to prevent
corrision damage to early 20th Century Buildings.
In
1999 Taywood Engineering held discussions with Elcometer with the
aim of finding an instrument to accurately identify the location
of fixings, reinforcement and structural steelworks embedded up
to 300mm in masonry walling.
The instrument was to be used to locate all iron and steel work
to allow the bonding-in of any stray metal components during the
installation of Cathodic Protection systems used to prevent corrosion
damage to the masonry of early 20th Century steel framed buildings.
The
instrument accurately located the steel column (vertical chalk
lines and 6mm diameter reinforcement bar (horizontal chalk line)
wrapped around column.
