 The United Kingdom’s Highways Agency is undertaking the inspection of hundreds of post-tensioned concrete bridge decks and associated substructures. The inspections were ordered because of a growing awareness of cases of inadequate and incomplete internal grouting to tendon ducts in pre-stressed post-tensioned decks.

 Devon County Council
Devon County Council was converting an existing building into a prestigious Information Centre and Archives Record Office. The conversion involved driving piles through the existing floor slab, which was originally constructed using pairs of post-tensioned tendons. Therefore the exact location of each individual tendon had to be determined.

Taywood Engineering Limited needed to accurately locate fixings, locate reinforcement and locate structural steelwork embedded up to 300mm within masonry walling (an unusual application). This was necessary to allow the bonding-in of all stray metal components during the installation of cathodic protection systems used to prevent corrosion damage to the masonry.

Nielsen Dillingham were carrying out a structural retrofit project to provide additional seismic protection to a semiconductor wafer production facility in California. The task involved core drilling through columns to precisely locate rebars under 180mm of cover. Identifying the exact location of the rebars was essential.

Wall Tie Locator in action with Gunpoint
 Gunpoint Limited.
Newcastle City Council was carrying out a major overhaul of the external fabric of city-owned houses on the St. Anthony’s Estate. Part of the work involved removing deteriorated mortar prior to re-pointing. Gunpoint Limited, the contractor selected to carry out the task, removed the mortar using power grinders set to the specified rake depth of 30mm.

Reclaimed timber furniture manufacturers, Splinters suffered a succession of costly setbacks when saw blades struck metal in the timber they were using. Water Main Locator in action with Scottish Water
 East Of Scotland Water Authority.
 Metal covers of control valve boxes are often lost during resurfacing of roadways or during excavation work, making it difficult for traditional metal detectors to locate the valves. East Of Scotland Water wanted to ensure that, in the event of a burst main, they could minimise customer inconvenience by always locating the most appropriate isolating valve.
